2017 Westwood Estate Pinot Noir, Wendling Vineyard, Sonoma, CA
"In Bordeaux there is a saying that you aren't ready to make Pinot Noir until you are 50. So, I'm finally ready." Phillipe Melke, Westwood's head winemaker, and according to Robert Parker, one of the world's "Top Ten Winemakers."
Fresh red cherries, violets, and spice aromatics abound, accompanied by rich earth and soil notes. On the palate tannins are consistent and elegant, leading to a persistent finish. This Pinot is a true, distinctive and age-worthy expression of the complexity of the Anderson Valley.
Farmed biodynamically, the vineyard is found northernmost in the Anderson Valley AVA and the closest to the Pacific Ocean. The vineyard is planted to a broad array of clones under the consultation of Littorai's Ted Lemon.
